A Letter A Day

One year, 365 letters. A letter a day. My resolution for 2006. I’ve always enjoyed writing letters and I want to get back in the habit. I'm not limiting myself to a letter a day. 365 is just the minimum. My goal is to get a 20% response rate. This is the official chronicle of my “year of writing letters.” Thanks for reading! - Chris Lucas

Another non-reply reply

Ellen Burstyn

Reference date: September 4th

Well, the drought is over! I got my frst letter in months. It was from Academy Award winning actress Ellen Burstyn. Unfortunately it was a "non-reply", just like the one I got from the woman who played Edith Bunker, Jean Stapleton.

In my letter, I asked questions to Ms. Burstyn, best known for her roles in "The Exorcist" and "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" about her life as an actor. She was also head of my Union (Actors Equity Association) for quite some time and i inquired about that.

Ms. Burstyn's response was an autographed photo that simply said, "To Chris." No advice, no words of wisdom, just the photo. Not that I'm unappreciative, it's just that I expected more. Oh well, at least she acknowledged my letter.

I sent her a thank you card the next day.
